Animation studio CLAP is producing the project, reuniting the core creative team behind the Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san (Pompo: The Cinéphile), which premiered in June 2021.
Hirao and Matsuo attended the showcase in France to introduce the project. The creators revealed that Wasted Chef combines culinary elements with science fiction to examine the concept of modern value. The Latin word restorare, which means to heal or to restore, serves as a central keyword for the narrative.
Synopsis
A young chef chasing a lost flavor lands in a ruined city without taste. Saved by Kasumi, his cooking awakens forgotten memories. But a dark force threatens to erase all desire — making his quest the last hope to save both worlds. (Source: Marché du Film)
