by Awais

An official website opened for a television anime adaptation of Aki Irie’s Hokuhokusei ni Kumo to Ike (Go with the Clouds, North-by-Northwest) manga on Wednesday and revealed an illustration (pictured) by Irie to commemorate the announcement.

Irie began serializing the supernatural drama manga in Harta magazine in March 2016. In April 2021, the manga transferred to the newly launched Aokishi magazine and ran until Irie left in February 2025. Irie joined the new publishing company Yukiwarisou in November 2025. Kadokawa published the seventh volume in February 2024.

Vertical licensed the manga in English in 2018 and released the seventh volume in April 2025.

Hokuhokusei ni Kumo to Ike ranked sixth in 2019’s Manga Taisho award and 11th in the Male Readers’ Top 20 of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2019.

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Kei Miyama comes from a family with strange abilities. Birds flock to his grandfather as if he is the wind that carries them in the air itself. Kei, on the other hand, can talk to cars and prefers their company to humans—especially women. After moving to Iceland, Kei makes a living there as a freelance detective.

Whether it be resolving lovers’ quarrels, locating missing people, or recovering lost items, Kei hops from case to case, traveling alone on the empty roads that span the rugged Icelandic landscape. But the secrets of the land of ice and fire are not the only mysteries ahead that Kei must unravel: an encounter with an aloof Icelandic beauty makes him recall local superstitions of ghosts that roam the wild lands at night.
