Frontier Developments has just announced Planet Zoo 2 and the first Jurassic World Evolution 3 expansion, but the developer is already hard at work on its next “construction and management simulation” game. And it isn’t a sequel.
In news that was first revealed by head of player engagement Richard Stephenson on Discord and then later announced by the company in a financial earnings report, Frontier said: “We’ve started work on a brand-new Planet Game franchise, which has all the familiarity you love about the Planet series, but a completely new setting for us than Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo, one which still combines our love for creativity, management, and meaningful simulation.”
The original Discord message lacked any word on a release date, but the financial earnings report offers a bit more detail (hat tip to GameWatcher). It specifies that “a new own-IP CMS [construction and management simulation] game is confirmed for FY28”, which means it’s scheduled to arrive between May 2027 and May 2028, based on the company’s financial calendar.
This quiet announcement has excited Frontier fans and caused all sorts of theories about what’s coming next to bubble up, from safe guesses like Planet Resort or Planet Museum (similar to the Two Point series) to more novel possibilities such as Planet Studio. We particularly like the later suggestion because no one has attempted to repeat what The Movies did back in 2005.
For now, Frontier – both developer and publisher – is preparing for a busy back of 2026, with Planet Zoo 2 heading for a 13th October launch, and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch, which is listed as just “coming soon”.
