Battlefield 6 roadmap for 2026 reveals naval warfare and reimagined maps

Battlefield Studios has revealed the 2026 roadmap for Battlefield 6. It’s good news for the players who have stuck with the game since launch, and even better news for longtime series veterans.

The biggest news is arriving with season 4 in July: naval warfare is coming to both Battlefield 6 and Redsec. It will include aircraft carriers, complete with an operational flight deck, alongside new naval-based vehicles and challenges. There will also be a “dynamic wave system,” which means players can use waves for “strategic approaches and ambushes,” according to the video detailing the roadmap.

Of course, there need to be maps with large bodies of water for naval warfare to ensue, which is why a reimagining of Wake Island, one of the series’ most popular and celebrated maps, is coming for its tenth appearance, believe it or not. Alongside that, Tsuru Reef will be a brand new naval-focused map set in the Pacific, and testing for it will begin in Battlefield Labs “soon.”

Before then, however, season 3 is coming in May, with two more reimagined maps. The first is Railway to Golmud, which is a reworked version of Golmud Railway from Battlefield 4, this time set in Tajikistan. In the video explaining Battlefield 6‘s roadmap, Philippe Ducharme, executive producer at Motive (one of the sub-studios that make up Battlefield Studios), says that this map is a direct response to player feedback about “the kind of map experience you want.”

Railway to Golmud will be “the biggest map in Battlefield 6 yet” (until Tsuru Reef, at least), as it’s “nearly four times the size of Mirak Valley.” It’ll have “new cover, larger aerial spaces, and more opportunities for strategic play.” That description is vague as hell, but potentially promising.

Cairo Bazaar, a reimagining of Battlefield 3’s Grand Bazaar, except it’s set in, uh, Cairo, is also coming in Season 3, albeit later on. Anyone who’s played the original version knows this is a map with plenty of tight spaces and alleyways, and this version has been “tweaked for higher intensity encounters.”

Finally, season 3 will include battle royale solos, alongside ranked battle royale quads in Redsec. Ranked play will arrive in other areas of the game “once the team has evolved the experience so that it delivers on the highest quality level.”

There are plenty of quality of life features that Battlefield Studios has confirmed they’re working on and that they’re planning to bring to the game this year too, including but not limited to:

  • Leaderboards
  • Server browser
  • Custom lobbies
  • Spectator mode
  • Proximity chat
  • Platoons
  • New Sobek and Blackwell Fields reworks

Battlefield 6 season 3 will begin on Tuesday, May 12 on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
