Announced during June’s Nintendo Direct, all three Xenoblade Chronicles titles are receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, starting with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, which is available now digitally via the eShop, and will get a standalone physical release on June 30. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition launches digitally July 30 and physical on October 1, while digital and physical versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 Edition launch on December 9.
As of writing, you can preorder the physical versions of each game from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop for $70 each. You can check out full preorder details for each title below. Like most other first-party Switch 2 games, all three Xenoblade Chronicles Switch 2 editions include the full game data on the cartridge.
Along with the standalone physical and digital Switch 2 versions, those who already own the Switch versions can upgrade to the Switch 2 editions for $10 per title via the Nintendo eShop.
Each of these new Xenoblade Chronicles Switch 2 Editions feature visual and performance enhancements thanks to the Switch 2’s more powerful hardware, running at 60FPS and 4K resolution in docked mode or 1080p in handheld). Each game also includes new and expanded content, which we’ve outlined below along with links for where to preorder.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
As the cumbersome titles implies, this is ostensibly the definitively definitive way to play the first Xenoblade Chronicles. Along with the various visual and gameplay changes made to the Switch version compared to the original 2010 Wii release (including the new Future Connected post-game chapter), this new Nintendo Switch 2 version offers upgraded performance and a handful of other new features, including:
- New Vehicle Mounts
- New Equipment Designs
- New Fully-Voiced Heart-to-Heart Cutscenes
While the standalone $70 digital Switch 2 version and $10 upgrade pack are available now on the eShop, those who are waiting for the physical edition to launch on July 30 can preorder Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Physical)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches digitally on July 30, with both a standalone and upgrade pack available. A physical version is slated to launch on July 30, and preorders are already available at multiple online retailers. This new version gives you the ability to control Blades during Mercenary Squad Battles, plus the following new content:
- New Rare Blade and Blade Quest
- New Equipment Designs for Pyra and Mythra
Note: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition includes Torna: The Golden Country for anyone who purchased the DLC as part of the original Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass. If you purchased the standalone version of Torna separate from the base game, you will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version via a $10 upgrade pack on the eShop.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 -Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches on December 9. This release date applies to both the physical version and the digital standalone release and $10 upgrade pack. Like the other Switch 2 Editions, this new release packs the full game plus a bunch of exclusive content, including:
- New Wave-Based Defensive Battle content
- New playable Hero and Hero quests
- New fully-voiced cutscences
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition also received a Switch 2 version earlier this year. While it offers the same visual and performance specs as the newly announced numbered trilogy Switch 2 editions, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition suffered from lackluster texture and resolution upscaling when played in 4K resolution in docked mode, or in handheld mode (strangely, playing in 1080p on TV seems to mostly resolve the issue). It’s unclear whether this will be fixed via a future patch. Thankfully, it appears the mainline Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy’s Switch 2 editions are spared from these issues.
That said, if you’re looking to have a complete Xenoblade Chronicles series lineup on Switch 2, physical copies of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are available for $65 at Amazon and Best Buy. You can also pick up the Switch version and upgrade to the Switch 2 edition via the eShop.
