Last month, Helldivers were told to “uncover the truth” as part of Helldivers 2’s ongoing live narrative. This month, we’re getting new toys to play with, and by “toys” I mean mechs that look cool as hell.
Today, 21st April, PlayStation and developer Arrowhead Studios shared an in-depth look at 28th April’s The Exo Experts warbond, which is essentially the game’s next content update. As a reminder, warbonds are technically unlocked with premium currency, but Helldivers 2 is special in that you can earn that premium currency by playing and warbonds (another term for battle passes) stick around forever. Yes, there’s grind involved to access the new items and vehicles (not ideal if you’re more of a casual player), but at least there’s no FOMO or gating involved.
The Ministry of Defense wants players to “fight fire with fire” and thus has mobilised brand- new exosuits: the EXO-51 Lumberer, equipped with an anti-tank cannon and a flamethrower, and the EXO-55 Breakthrough, which comes with a flak cannon and a ballistics shield if you want to get up close and personal.
For those who prefer being boots-on-the-ground, new weapons are also being added: the MGX-42 Bullet Storm, “a disposable machine gun sporting caseless ammunition in multiple barrels”, the SMG-203 Gallant, a submachine gun that sacrifices clip size for increased rate of fire and penetration, and the P-33 Missile Pistol, which is as bonkers as it sounds.
Of course, new armour sets and extra cosmetics are coming as well, with the O-2 Heavy Operator and O-3 Free Spirit sets as the central pieces. “These new armors come stock standard with the Oxygenator perk allowing you to walk, run and slide slightly quicker.”
More capes and skin patterns for a number of vehicles are included in the new warbond, and you can take a look at the entire package right here:
