One of Dead by Daylight players’ most-requested slashers is finally coming to the game. Developer Behaviour Interactive announced on Saturday, as part of a 10-year anniversary stream for Dead by Daylight, that Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise will soon join the game’s roster of Killers.
Behaviour Interactive will bring Jason to Dead by Daylight officially on June 16.
Jason’s arrival in Dead by Daylight is a huge win for Behaviour, and for Friday the 13th fans who enjoy asymmetrical survival horror games. Jason previously starred in his own game, 2017’s Friday the 13th: The Game, but the online multiplayer servers for that game were shut down in 2020, and the title was delisted in 2023. Licensing issues over the Jason character were blamed, but with the formation of the Jason Universe project, new stories and games based on the character are moving forward. Thus far, that includes projects like A24’s upcoming horror series Crystal Lake, and appearances by Jason in games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. Jason also starred in a short film for hard cider company Apple Orchard last year titled Sweet Revenge.
Of course, Jason has been prominently featured as a guest character in many games over the years, including on the rosters of MultiVersus and Mortal Kombat X.
With Jason’s arrival in Dead by Daylight, Behaviour has secured nearly all mainstream horror cinema’s slasher icons. Jason will now slay survivors alongside the likes of Chucky from Child’s Play, Michael Myers from Halloween, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Ghostface from Scream, Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Pinhead from Hellraiser. (The latter has since been pulled from sale from Dead by Daylight.)
So who’s left? A handful of classic and modern horror icons are still potentially on the table. Candyman, Art the Clown from Terrifier, and The Tall Man from Phantasm are all strong potential candidates as future Dead by Daylight Killers.
For now, though, Dead by Daylight fans will have to simply enjoy horror’s latest titan. Stay tuned for more details on Jason’s arrival in Dead by Daylight, which is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A version is also available on mobile devices.
