You’ll need creature enamel in Subnautica 2 for some intermediate crafting recipes that let you reinforce your vehicles, among other things. However, it’s not an easily identifiable material like copper or silver, and it’s easy to overlook initially in the vastness of the new area beyond the Alien Ruins. A handful of obnoxious fish also call the area home, so you’ll want to come prepared to get them away long enough for you to gather enamel.
Below, we show you where to find creature enamel locations in Subnautica 2.
[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]
Where to find creature enamel in Subnautica 2
Creature enamel is enamel from creatures, not a creature itself. You’re basically looking for what looks like giant teeth stuffed into a chunk of rock. Throughout the area around Ruby’s second blackbox, you’ll find clusters of enamel lodged in the side of cliffs. For reference, that’s about 250 meters south-southeast of the Alien Ruins, and there’s a chance you’ll find creature enamel in any of the rock formations throughout this area. Get your sonic resonator out and fire off a charged blast to collect the enamel. You get two pieces of enamel on average per deposit. It doesn’t seem like much, though you don’t need large quantities of it initially anyway.
Make sure you’ve got some flares with you as well. Needler mangoes are all over the place here, and they won’t stop firing needles at you until you leave the area. However, they get distracted when you toss a flare at them and will leave you alone for a bit. Some of them are quite deep, below 250 meters. You won’t have a depth module yet for your tadpole if this is the first time you’re gathering creature enamel, so if you want to go deeper than 250 meters, make sure to exit the vehicle once you hit that depth mark.
Best creature enamel farming spot in Subnautica 2
If you want to get a lot of enamel fast, the best place to do it is about 250 meters south-southeast of the Alien Ruins marker. There’s a large stone spire that stretches from about 170 meters deep all the way to the ocean floor. You’ll find several enamel deposits here, along with some research platforms where you can snag a few items.
That said, you only need one piece of creature enamel to make enameled glass, and you only need two pieces of enameled glass to make the tadpole’s depth module. That’s two pieces of enamel total, so don’t worry about collecting a ton of it for a while.
