Veteran manga creator Naoki Urasawa will begin a new manga titled Saigo no Manga Kyoushitsu (The Final Manga Classroom) in the September issue of Big Comic Original Zoukan on August 12. The announcement was made in the magazine’s July issue on Friday.

The magazine preview suggests that the new series will touch on themes related to artificial intelligence and creativity. It notes that although modern society has become increasingly convenient, there are values and experiences from earlier times that were cultivated through patience and craftsmanship, encouraging readers to reexamine what may have been lost amid technological progress.

Urasawa resumed serializing Asadora! on March 23 after the manga had been on hiatus since July 2025. The series originally launched in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in October 2018.

Urasawa made his manga debut in 1981 and has established himself as one of Japan’s most acclaimed creators. His major works include Monster, Master Keaton, Yawara!, 20th Century Boys, 21st Century Boys, Pluto (Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka), and Billy Bat.

Several of his manga have received anime adaptations over the years. Yawara! was adapted into a television anime in 1989, followed by Master Keaton in 1998. Monster received a 74-episode television anime adaptation in 2004.

Pluto, Urasawa’s reinterpretation of Osamu Tezuka’s Chikyuu Saidai no Robot (The Greatest Robot on Earth) arc from Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy), streamed on Netflix in October 2023. 20th Century Boys inspired a live-action film trilogy between 2008 and 2009.
