Ready to make a commitment? HBO has a deal for you
Ahead of the season 3 premiere of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, HBO is offering a limited-time deal on HBO Max subscriptions. The deal requires a commitment, though; annual subscriptions to HBO Max are on sale through July, with savings up to $65 per year.
An annual subscription at this point would offer access to the eight-episode third season of House of the Dragon, and (very likely) the second season of another Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which returns in 2027. It would also extend through the first season of HBO’s new Harry Potter show and season 3 of The Pitt. HBO Max’s 2026 lineup also includes DC’s Lanterns, Dune: Prophecy season 2, and Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the surprisingly promising-looking spinoff of The Big Bang Theory.
Here are the current HBO Max deals, which run through July 15:
HBO Max Basic With Ads
- $78.99/year (normally $109.99/year)
- Stream on 2 devices at once
- Full HD video resolution
HBO Max Standard
- $132.99/year (normally $184.99/year)
- Stream on 2 devices at once
- Full HD video resolution
- 30 downloads to watch on the go
- Stream Live Sports: NHL, MLB and more
HBO Max Premium
- $164.99/year (normally $229.99/year)
- Stream on 4 devices (only 2 for sports)
- 4K UHD & Dolby Atmos as available
- 100 downloads to watch on the go
- Stream Live Sports: NHL, MLB and more
The standard deal feels like the best balance of cost and features. The $132.99 annual price works out to $11.08 per month, about the same price as the monthly cost of a Basic With Ads subscription. So if you’re looking to re-up or ditch another streamer for HBO’s content, or just lock in a price before yet another price increase, House of the Dragon season 3 might just be the excuse you need.
