Filming for Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider adaptation has reportedly resumed, after Sophie Turner suffered an injury last month.
Back in March, production was halted on the upcoming series while Turner – who is set to star as Lara Croft in the adaptation – recovered from a back injury. At this time, it was unclear if Turner would be out of action for months or just a matter of weeks.
Thankfully, though, it appears to be the latter, as TMZ reports filming for Tomb Raider has now resumed. It stated the recent pause will not impact the show’s production schedule. “With its star out, Tomb Raider production had no choice but to shut down… but we were told the crew was paid the entire time,” the publication added.
Along with the resumed filming, some within the Tomb Raider community also believe they have worked out where the series will be basing its take on Lara’s not-so-humble abode, Croft Manor. As spotted by Tomb Raider Chronicles, Wrest Park – a Grade I-listed estate in Bedfordshire – was closed to the public earlier this year, as Amazon took over the location for filming purposes, which included fireworks.
While it was not stated that the estate was being closed for Tomb Raider specifically, the residence would certainly be a fitting match for Lara’s ancestral home… It’s a 19th-century mansion in the style of a French chateau, which sounds right up her alley. The estate has also been used as a filming location for the likes of Downton Abbey: A New Era and Bridgerton.
Filming for the Tomb Raider series – which along with Turner also stars Celia Imrie, Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver and Martin Bobb-Semple – initially began in January. The following month, we got our first look at Turner on set as Lara, as she parachuted into a soggy woodland with two pistols strapped to her thighs. We’ve since seen the actress on the back of a motorcycle, accompanied by Bobb-Semple’s Zip.
Additionally, former Lara Croft actress Keeley Hawes was also spotted on set in London earlier this year, with many suspecting she will play Lara’s mother Amelia on the show’s release.
