Another Suicide Squad character is coming to the animated series

James Gunn’s HBO Max animated series Creature Commandos is returning for season 2 with some new team members. Numerous potential squad members held in custody at Belle Reve Correctional Center were teased in the season 1 finale and during a panel at Annecy Festival, DC Animation revealed which character actually made the cut.

The Bride will be leading the new squad alongside Eric Frankenstein, Doctor Phosphorus, and Weasel. As teased at the end of season 1, G.I. Robot is back with a bulky new look.

“He’s got a really strong and emotional character arc this season,” producer Rick Morales said. “[Gunn] cares a lot and has really great insights. We sent him a dozen looks and keyed in on these rounder, bigger shapes.”

The version of King Shark featured in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is joining the squad, and the show will reveal his backstory. The mummy Khalis, who was seen knitting in the finale, is another new member. He’s a kindly old man whose bandages have healing powers and might even be capable of resurrection. Weasel likes chewing on his bones.

The final new member is Nosferata, a young woman who was experimented on by a mad scientist who basically turned her into a vampire. Her look was tweaked from the season 1 finale as the creators considered styles including goth, sci-fi, and rave girl, eventually deciding on something that looks a fair bit like Charli XCX. Morales describes her relationship with The Bride as extremely contentious, pretty much the opposite of how she dealt with Nina.

Warner Bros. hasn’t shared a release date for season 2 of Creature Commandos, but expect it sometime next year.
