The 11th and final episode of Dorohedoro Season 2 revealed on Thursday that the third season is in production. The official website also released an illustration (pictured) drawn by the series’ director, Yuuichirou Hayashi, to commemorate the announcement.

The first season by animation studio MAPPA aired in 12 episodes in Winter 2020. Netflix streamed the anime in Japan in January 2020 and later worldwide in May that year. The second limited edition Blu-ray bundled six short episodes in June 2020.

The second season streamed during the Spring 2026 season for 11 episodes on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Ani-One Asia, with multiple subtitles and dubs.

The anime adapts Q Hayashida’s adventure fantasy manga, which originally debuted in Spirits Zoukan Ikki (later renamed to Monthly Ikki) in November 2000 before switching to HiBaNa in March 2015 due to the former discontinuing its serialization in September the year prior. The manga then transferred to Gessan in November 2017 when HiBaNa ceased publishing in August that year and ended in September 2018. Shogakukan shipped the 23rd and final volume in November 2018.

VIZ Media began publishing the manga digitally on its SigIkki website in 2009, the former online English edition of the Ikki magazine. The company began distributing the manga physically under its Signature imprint in March 2010 and released the 23rd and final volume in September 2019.

Synopsis

Hole—a dark, decrepit, and disorderly district where the strong prey on the weak and death is an ordinary occurrence—is all but befitting of the name given to it. A realm separated from law and ethics, it is a testing ground to the magic users who dominate it. As a race occupying the highest rungs of their society, the magic users think of the denizens of Hole as no more than insects. Murdered, mutilated, and made experiments without a second thought, the powerless Hole dwellers litter the halls of Hole’s hospital on a daily basis.

Possessing free access to and from the cesspool, and with little challenge to their authority, the magic users appear indomitable to most—aside for a few. Caiman, more reptile than man, is one such individual. He hunts them on a heedless quest for answers with only a trusted pair of bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to restoring his life to normal. With his biggest obstacle being his stomach, his female companion Nikaidou, who runs the restaurant Hungry Bug, is his greatest ally.

Set in a gritty world of hellish design, Dorohedoro manages a healthy blend of comedy and lightheartedness with death and carnage. Taking plenty of twists and turns while following the lives of Hole’s residents, it weaves a unique world of unearthly origin and dreary appearance not for the squeamish or easily disturbed.
