Overwatch season 2 start date, skins, and new collabs revealed

The next season of Overwatch is coming on April 14, and will be headlined by the game’s newest hero, Sierra. But there’s a whole lot more coming in season 2, titled Summit, for Blizzard Entertainment’s hero shooter. That includes what is easily the best skin yet for Ramattra, a hero who is routinely and notoriously overlooked in the Good Skins Department at Blizzard.

Sierra is Overwatch‘s newest Damage hero, and fans will get another look at her abilities — “built for controlling spaces, high and low,” Blizzard says — in the first trailer for season 2. Fans will also get a peek at her first skin, Painter Sierra, which will be included as part of the season 2 Ultimate Battle Pass. Illari will also get an Ultimate Battle Pass skin this season, part of the Spring Fairy line that runs throughout the season 2 Battle Pass.

Other heroes getting Spring Fairy skins include Ashe (and BOB), Echo, Lifeweaver, Moira, Symmetra, Torbjörn, Tracer, and Wuyang. (Blizzard really hopes you like elf ears!) In terms of paid skins for the in-game shop, Blizzard is rounding out the pastel Sakura line with new skins for Esme, Freja, Genji, Hanzo, Junker Queen, and Juno. Blizzard is also bringing back the popular Le Sserafim skins for another tour of the in-game shop April 14-27.

Season 2’s Mythic skins go to Genji, who gets the Sumi-Ichimonji Mythic weapon skin, and Soldier: 76, with his Volted Overdrive Mythic skin.

But it’s the Ramattra skin, tied to the upcoming release of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, that will have fans talking, and not only because the Tank hero is often cited as being one of Overwatch‘s most overlooked characters. Ramattra’s new skin appears to be inspired by Mephisto, the big bad of the expansion Lord of Hatred. Overwatch already has its fair share of Diablo-themed skins for heroes like Moira, Orisa, Pharah, Reinhardt, Roadhog, Sombra, Wrecking Ball, and Zarya, so something new (and inspired) for Ramattra is welcome.

Gameplay-wise, Overwatch fans can expect some big additions in season 2: Summit, including the return of post-match accolades, where you can shout out other players — or shout at them, as Blizzard is adding post-match voice chat for both teams. Eek!

Map updates for season 2 include a rework of Antarctic Peninsula and the addition of Lijiang Night Market to Stadium mode. Ramattra will join Stadium mode in season 2, with Jetpack Cat also joining mid-season. Juno’s Stadium kit is also getting a rework.

Finally, Overwatch will turn 10 years old on May 24, which Blizzard will commemorate with unspecified in-game events.
