Arakawa began serializing the manga adaptation of Tokura’s action fantasy novel on the Gaugau Monster web service in September 2021. The tenth volume was released in December 2025, with the 11th volume scheduled to go on sale on April 30.
Tokura originally began writing the novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in November 2020. Futabasha began publishing the light novel under its Monster Novel imprint with illustrations by Eiri Shirai (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar) in September 2021. The third volume went on sale in November 2023. Zatsuyou Fuyo Jutsushi ga Jibun no Saikyou ni Kizuku made has a cumulative 3.5 million copies of its volumes in circulation.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga in English in May 2025 and September 2021, respectively. The first novel volume shipped on February 17, with the second volume scheduled to be released on June 16. The fifth manga volume was released on January 6, with the sixth volume planned for a May 12 release.
Synopsis
Wim Strauss is a “granting caster”—a support mage who can increase the strength of his allies through the power of his spells. It’s a useful talent, but since it can’t be used directly in battle, it gets zero respect from the other members of his party. As far as they’re concerned, support magic is dead weight. It isn’t long before they toss him out on his ear, leaving Wim to wonder if his career as an adventurer is over.
Lucky for Wim, he has one big chance: his childhood friend Heidemarie is able to get him an audition with her elite A-rank party, Nachtlibelle.
