The 18th issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine announced that a new manga by Hideaki Sorachi, 2-nen B-gumi Yuusha Destroyers (Hero Destroyers of Class 2B), will begin in the 21st issue on April 20. This marks Sorachi’s first serialization in seven years after the end of Gintama in 2019.

Sorachi serialized Gintama in Weekly Shounen Jump from December 2003 to September 2018. The manga then transferred to Jump Giga and ran for three consecutive issues from December 2018 to February 2019. The last three chapters were released on the official Gintama app from May to June 2019.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in 2006 and released the first 23 volumes from July 2007 to August 2011.

The first television anime produced by Sunrirse aired in 201 episodes from Spring 2006 to Winter 2010, followed by six seasons between 2011 and 2018, several original video anime, original net anime, and movies.

The final installation in the franchise, Gintama: The Final (Gintama: The Very Final) movie, opened in Japanese theaters in January 2021. A movie remake of the Yoshiwara Enjou-hen (Yoshiwara In Flames) arc opened in theaters on February 13.

A seven-episode anime adaptation of Sorachi’s first one-shot, Dandelion, will begin streaming worldwide on Netflix on April 16.
