The official website of the television anime adaptation of Satsuki Nakamura’s Futsutsuka na Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga: Suuguu Chouso Torikae Den (Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court) light novel revealed additional cast, the opening theme, and a second promotional video on Tuesday. The anime series is scheduled to premiere on July 12 at 11:45 p.m. on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, and other stations.

Singer-songwriter milet (Sousou no Frieren ending theme) is performing the opening theme “Sunny,” previewed in the promotional video below.
Mitsue Yamazaki (Maoujou de Oyasumi) is directing the anime at Doga Kobo, with Yoshiko Nakamura (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun) handling the series composition. Ai Kikuchi (Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san) is designing the characters. Yukari Hashimoto (Yubisaki to Renren) is composing the music.
Nakamura originally began the fantasy romance novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in July 2020. Ichijinsha began printing the series under its Ichijinsha Novels imprint in December that year, featuring illustrations by Kana Yuki (number24). The 12th volume went on sale on March 31.
Comic ZERO-SUM began serializing a manga adaptation by Ei Ohitsuji in December 2020. Ichijinsha published the tenth volume on March 31.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga in English in March 2023. The tenth light novel volume shipped on May 5, with the 11th volume scheduled to be released on September 22. The eighth manga volume was released in December 2025, with the ninth volume planned for an August 4 release.
