Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director confirms where the Gold Saucer fits into the story

If you loved playing minigames at the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy Rebirth, you’re in luck. In an interview with Polygon, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the iconic location will return in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. It’s going to look a little bit different this time around, though, and serve a very different function.

The Gold Saucer is one of Final Fantasy 7’s most iconic locations, housing an assortment of minigames in both the original game and Rebirth. While Hamaguchi was tight-lipped about the exact details of the new content we’ll see in Revelation during our conversation, he did hint at Gold Saucer’s overall role in the sequel. While the amusement paradise doesn’t play a major role in the central narrative, it will feature its own contained side story.

“In addition to all the new minigames that will be included within the Gold Saucer, there’s actually going to be a new piece of narrative being told in the area,” Hamaguchi told Polygon. “The way that the story unfolds is going to be quite interesting. I’m actually dying to tell you more about it, but for obvious reasons I think it’s better if we keep it for the future. The main story will not be connected to the Gold Saucer, but there is going to be this completely new narrative told within the area.”

That’s not all that’s new with the Gold Saucer in Revelation. It’s also getting some renovations thanks to a meta twist: Everyone in the game has become obsessed with Queen’s Blood since the end of Rebirth, just as many IRL players did when the game launched.

“The Gold Saucer was separated into distinct squares. There was the Wonder Square, an area that had the G-Bike and the snowboarding minigame that was under construction in Rebirth,” Hamaguchi said. “What’s going to happen in that area in Revelation is that, due to the immense popularity of Queen’s Blood, the square has been completely taken over by Queen’s Blood! All of that area is just going to be Queen’s Blood content.”

Don’t worry, though: the card game hasn’t displaced any familiar attractions in its Gold Saucer takeover. Hamaguchi confirmed that the snowboarding minigame will now appear in Speed Square instead.
