Sony Pictures had plenty to announce during CinemaCon 2026, including a Bloodborne animated feature, and that The Legend of Zelda has wrapped up filming. Fans of a certain friendly neighborhood webslinger were not forgotten either, as Sony showed footage from the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will conclude the trilogy that started in 2018. Moreover, the release date of the animated feature has been slightly changed: Beyond the Spider-Verse is now slated to hit theaters on June 18, 2027, one week earlier than what was previously announced.
While the footage is still unreleased, attendees reported that it was shown in 1.43:1 aspect ratio, tailored for IMAX and other large-format screens, which is rare for animation. The movie picks up right where Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ended, with Miles Morales coming face-to-face with his Earth-42 version, The Prowler. Popular characters from the trilogy will also return, including Peter B. Parker, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man 2099, and Gwen.

Besides the return of everyone’s favorite guitar-swinging rebel hero, Spider-Punk, the images show Miles’s uncle and dad, Aaron and Jeff, as their younger selves, teasing a flashback sequence. Considering the bond that Miles has with his uncle and how much Aaron’s death in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse affected him, fans are understandably excited to see a glimpse into the past lives of the Davis brothers.
The Spider-Verse saga has captured the imagination and admiration of legions of fans thanks to its grounded portrayal of the Spider-Man mythos through one of the most relatable characters in the franchise, Miles. It also wowed audiences with its innovative 2.5 D animation style that blends hand-drawn art with modern CGI techniques to create an effect reminiscent of a living comic book. It’s been heralded as a new visual language, and watching it in 1.43:1 aspect ratio will create a new, unforgettable experience for fans.
