Manga ‘Chainsaw Man’ Concludes Serialization

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga ended with chapter 232 on the Shounen Jump+ website on Wednesday.

Fujimoto began drawing action fantasy manga in Weekly Shounen Jump in December 2018 and ended its first part with 97 chapters in December 2020. The second part launched in Shounen Jump+ in July 2022. Shueisha published the 23rd volume on February 4 and will release the 24th and final volume on June 4.

MAPPA produced the first season of the television anime, which aired for 12 episodes in Fall 2022. The sequel film, Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen (Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc), opened in Japanese theaters on September 25 and in North American theaters on October 24, grossing over 9.62 billion yen (approximately US$61 million) domestically and US$175 million worldwide. Crunchyroll simulcasted the first season with subtitles and later released an English dub.

A sequel anime adapting the Shikaku-hen (Assassins Arc) is currently in production.

VIZ Media simulpublishes the manga on its Shounen Jump platform and released the 20th volume on March 3, with the 21st volume scheduled for an April 4 release. Shueisha’s Manga Plus service also simulpublishes the manga in English, Spanish, Thai, French, and Portuguese.

Synopsis

Denji has a simple dream—to live a happy and peaceful life, spending time with a girl he likes. This is a far cry from reality, however, as Denji is forced by the yakuza into killing devils in order to pay off his crushing debts. Using his pet devil Pochita as a weapon, he is ready to do anything for a bit of cash.

Unfortunately, he has outlived his usefulness and is murdered by a devil in contract with the yakuza. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Pochita merges with Denji’s dead body and grants him the powers of a chainsaw devil. Now able to transform parts of his body into chainsaws, a revived Denji uses his new abilities to quickly and brutally dispatch his enemies. Catching the eye of the official devil hunters who arrive at the scene, he is offered work at the Public Safety Bureau as one of them.
